Explosion Museum, Priddy's Hard, Gosport, Hampshire
Paranation are thrilled to be carrying out an investigation at the Explosion Museum, Priddy's Hard, Gosport, and warmly welcomes you to join us for an evening of paranormal investigation. The museum has several intriguing buildings with layers of history and untimely deaths. We have exclusive access for the duration of the evening. Discover the fate of former workers as you tour areas of the site the public don't see.
In 1861 “C” Magazine was built and in 1879 the largest magazine, “E” Magazine was built. During the 1860s the fortifications were strengthened incorporating brick gateways, carponniers and or covered firing positions to cover the moats, Armstrong guns were fitted to the two demi-bastions.
The site was altered continuously during the early twentieth century to meet the evolving needs of naval ordnance technology and to improve the security of the site from both landward and seaward attack. The site was fully utilised during the Second World War with the introduction of 2,500 women workers who filled jobs vacated by men on active service. The site was last used for significant naval activity during the Falklands Conflict in 1982, and was vacated by RNAD Gosport in 1988 when it relocated to Frater further north on the Harbour.
Now the Priddy's Hard site is home to a Museum which opened in March of 2001. Explosion!, The Museum of Naval Firepower is an award winning , hands on, interactive museum set in the historic setting of a former Royal Navy gunpowder and munitions depot at Priddy's Hard, on the Gosport side of Portsmouth Harbour
Activity
Filled with the sightings of former workers, the haunted tunnels have a foreboding atmosphere. Reports of 12 untimely bloody deaths, disease and an unnatural breeze that sweeps through the corridors, (rumoured to be of a former worker who died on the spot), this building holds plenty of activity to investigate. Find the blood stain of munitions worker Edward George McBride who was killed in a blast on the 30th November 1922. The stain is said to reappear on the wall in the room where he died. Another explosion took 8 lives on 26 th July 1921. Wailing can be heard and in room 309 footsteps walk the floor and someone has been heard banging the door. Help us investigate the haunted corridors and listen for the footsteps in room 309!!
Event Plan
The evening will begin with an introductory talk and refreshments. We will then hold demonstrations, explanations and teach you how to use our equipment.
